Fire Service Vehicle Operator (FSVO)
April 13 & 16, 2010

The Office of the State Fire Marshal has announced that this certification is “highly recommended” to all departments in Illinois.  The training is designed to provide fire service personnel with basic knowledge and skills to safely perform fire service vehicle operations as defined by NFPA 1002 (1998) and NFPA 1451 (2002).

The curriculum includes eight hours of classroom instruction and a half-day of competency exercises on the NIPSTA Driver Training Pad.  After the NIPSTA program, students must complete the OSFM written exam and perform eight additional hours of behind-the-wheel training at their local departments.

State certification is awarded to drivers who successfully complete this NIPSTA program.  The certification is valid for three years and is specific to the vehicle to which the student is assigned in his/her employment.

On Day 2 only, each student must bring the vehicle to which he/she is assigned in his/her employment.  No more than 2 students per department per vehicle.

Program includes continental breakfast, lunch, and course materials.
