Lessons for Leaders
Recently, the NIPSTA Public Works Supervisors Academy completed the delivery of 12 different programs over a two-year period. Another round of programming is now available to a new audience of public works leaders, and to those who aspire to supervisory positions within their departments. These popular half-day training sessions begin in September with a program entitled “Transitioning Into a Leadership Role.” Other topics scheduled in October and November include: “Communicating as a Leader” and “What Kind of Leader are You?"

This year’s version of the Supervisors Academy follows on the successes of 2006 and 2007. The programs are offered in a format that is both accessible and affordable. Class sizes are limited for this training, which is not available elsewhere in Illinois. Register today!

Command and WMD Response
at Wastewater Facilities
This no-cost program is offered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Center for Domestic Preparedness. It provides to personnel at wastewater facilities a combination of lecture-style and hands-on training. This course addresses Weapons of Mass Destruction-related topics and training in pre-incident planning and emergency response. The curriculum is tailored for these specialized facilities, but the emergency response principles are widely applicable to other public works environments.
