The Region X Disaster Healthcare Coalition is hosting an ASPR/HPP Grant funded program at NIPSTA, the Hospital Incidental Spill Course, this August. Each participant may attend at no cost.

Location: Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA)

2300 Patriot Blvd, Glenview, IL 60026

Purpose: To provide high level awareness for responding to an incidental spill in a healthcare facility.

Audience: Anyone that has the potential to respond to an incidental spill including but not limited to employees in the following departments: laboratory, facilities, pharmacy, transport, public safety, environmental services.

Prerequisites: Attendees must come with operational understanding of hazardous communication and PPE Training.

Objectives: At the end of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Recognize chemical hazards in healthcare setting
  • Distinguish between an "incidental spill" and an "emergency response"
  • Understand appropriate PPE
  • Identify what capabilities exist within the hospital and externally to manager a hazardous materials release
  • Organize and deploy using safe individual and team approach and practices
