Trench Operations (32 hours)

Course Description

NIPSTA Trench Rescue Operations program is designed to meet basic knowledge and skills needed to perform trench collapse rescue at the NFPA 1006 & 1670 Operations Level-I. The program also meets the requirements outlined by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal “OSFM”. Students will be prepared to operate as a member of a regional team capable of responding to statewide emergencies where Trench Collapse Rescue may be needed. 

 Students will receive classroom instruction on OSHA trench regulations, hazards, ventilation, soil types, shoring, etc. Students will also be performing hands-on evolutions on entry and egress, shoring systems, patient packaging, and more.  All evolutions will be performed in live trenches, providing for realistic training 

 Prerequisites:

  • Member of recognized fire department / brigade
  • Rope Rescue Operations
  • Confined Space Operations
