Hazardous Materials Operations

NIPSTA’s Hazardous Materials First Responder - Operations program is designed to exceed the requirements outlined by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal “OSFM”, and provides students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to respond to hazardous materials/weapons of mass destruction “WMD” incidents for the purpose of implementing or supporting actions to protect nearby persons, the environment, or property from the effects of a hazardous material release. The curriculum is designed to fulfill the standards as set forth by NFPA 472, Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, 2013 Edition, and as outlined by the Code of Federal Regulations “CFR” 1910.120 (HAZWOPER) Standards.
