NIPSTA’s Hazardous Materials Technician program is designed to exceed the requirements outlined by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) This Hazmat Technician program provides students with the advanced knowledge and skills needed to respond to hazardous materials, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) and weapons of mass destruction “WMD” incidents for the purpose of analyzing or planning actions to protect nearby persons, the environment, or property from the effects of a hazardous material release. The curriculum is designed to fulfill the standards as set forth by NFPA 470, Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Standard for Responders, 2022 edition and OSHA 1910.120, Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
